Vernon Lasley, 21, of Tama, passed away Friday, December 6, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Sunday, December 8, 2013, at 3:00 PM at Morgan Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Larry Lasley Sr. as speaker. A Traditional Wake will be held Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Eagle Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama.
Vernon was born on September 4, 1992, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Virgil Lasley and Lori Beck. He graduated from Meskwaki High School in 2010 and attended college at Southwest Minnesota State University and Loras. He was currently working at Rube’s Steakhouse in Montour. Vernon was an easy going, fun loving friend to all. He had a contagious radiant smile. Vernon loved to play sports, especially football. He was the first ever Meskwaki Warrior to sign a letter of intent to play college football. He signed and played with SMSU and then transferred to Loras. Survivors include his mother and father, Lori Beck and Virgil Lasley of Tama; brother, Vincent Lasley of Tama; sisters, Tori Beck and Vawn Lasley of Tama; grandfather, Larry Beck of Eastlake, OH; grandmother, Anna Fisher of Waterloo; aunts, Vicki Bear, Valerie Lasley, Veronica Lasley, Sandy Kapayou, Mary Lasley, Vangie Lasley, Ann Lasley, and Vestana Lasley all of Tama, Dawn Palladino of Eastlake, OH, and Tara Richards of Cedar Rapids; numerous cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Victor Lasley; and his grandmother, Irma Lasley.
