Agnes was born on August 14, 1915 and raised in Carroll Township north of Toledo, the daughter of Rudolph and Mary Kubik Sevcik. She attended school in the area of her birth at Carroll No. 4 school. On October 6, 1936, she married William Yanda of Toledo at St. Wenceslaus Church in rural Clutier. They farmed northeast of Toledo for 40 years. After the death of her husband, Agnes moved to Toledo in 1977. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church of rural Vining, St. Patrick's Church of Tama, CC Women's Society, KD Lodge # 149 and Farm Bureau Township Homemakers.
As a modern woman, Agnes had a sense of wit and humor and especially enjoyed visiting family members and telling jokes or reading from her personal joke book. She enjoyed life on the farm and gardening, raising many of her own fruits and vegetables. She was the owner of recipe books for cooking American and Czech food, especially egg noodles, kolaches and rohlickys for her children and grandchildren. Agnes loved reading, fishing and playing cards, especially pepper. She extensively traveled in Europe, Canada and the United States including Alaska and Hawaii.
She was preceded in death by her parents Rudolph and Mary Sevcik, husband William, brother Frank Sevcik and sisters Lucille Sebetka and Hermina Novotny.
Agnes is survived by her two children Dr. Don (Sherry) Yanda of Maquoketa, IA, Patricia Westcott of Monterey, CA, ten grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family was blessed to have such an inspirational wife, mom and grandmother for many years. All will miss her smile and words of wit and humor.
Special thanks to the staff at Premier Estates of Toledo for all the love and support during Agnes' time as a resident and the MMSC staff in Toledo. Also thanks to Fr. Michael Mescher for his support and to Kruse-Philips Funeral Home.
