TOLEDO – Albert Leonard Podhajsky, age 87, of Toledo, died on Monday, September 18, 2006 at Grandview Acres Nursing Home in Toledo following a long illness. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, September 22, 2006 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher officiating. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 21, 2006 from 5-7 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Vigil Service at 7 PM.
Albert Leonard Podhajsky was born on November 28, 1918, on a farm west of Clutier in Carroll Township, Tama, County, the son of Joe and Albina (Kvidera) Podhajsky.
He attended Carroll #5 country school.
On June 4, 1940, he was united in marriage to Lois Vavra at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama. They farmed on the family homestead until 1967 when they moved to Toledo. While living in Toledo, Albert worked at Farm Service and Springer Lumber. He also was a substitute school bus driver for South Tama Schools.
Albert was a member of the K.D's, the Catholic Foresters and the Tama County Farm Bureau.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joe Podhajsky; two sisters, Hermina Pokorny and Elbie Herink; and one great-grandson, Noah Speck.
Survivors include his wife, Lois of Toledo; three sons, David (Irene) Podhajsky of Clutier, Thomas (Vicky) Podhajsky of Garwin and Michael Podhajsky of Albion; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
