TOLEDO-Albye J. Hennessy, age 96, of Toledo died Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness. A private memorial service will be held. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements.
Albye was born on April 7, 1912 in Clutier, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Sophie (Raymond) Hess Sr. She graduated from Clutier High School and Iowa State Teachers College. She was united in marriage to Arthur Leo Hennessy on July 10, 1935 at Kahoka, MO. Albye taught country school at Oneida #8 for three years. She worked for Pioneer for ten years during detasseling and harvest seasons. She also worked in nursing homes for sixteen years as well as providing in-home care. In her free time, Albye enjoyed watching sports and cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur Hennessy; a twin brother, Joey Hess Jr.; a sister, Gladys Benda; and two brothers in infancy.
Survivors include two sons, Donald (Carol) Hennessy of Toledo, and Darold Hennessy of Toledo; four granddaughters, Tina (Tom) Shea of Toledo, Adonica Hennessy of Tama, Delrae Hennessy of Toledo, and Lasiene Kapayou of Tama; eight great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren.
