TOLEDO- Alfred John Dostal, age 84, of Cedar Rapids and formerly of Toledo, died on March 22, 2006, in Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids under the care of Hospice of Mercy. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2006, at 10:30 AM at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher officiating. Interment will be private at the St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. There will be no visitation.
Alfred John Dostal was born on November 18, 1921, in Toledo, Iowa, the son of John and Emma Podhajsky Dostal. On April 7, 1956, he was united in marriage to Doris "Pat" Tanner at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in rural Clutier. They farmed and also owned Hines Rest Home in Toledo. He was also a farm equipment dealer. His hobbies included going to garage sales, gardening, and he liked to cook.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pat, and one sister, Evelyn Thoms.
Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl (Todd) Miller of Marion; two sons, Larry (Cathy) Dostal of Coralville and Douglas Dostal of Oak Park, IL; two grandchildren, Nathan Miller and Sean Dostal; and one brother, Richard (Leona) Dostal of White Bear Lake, MN.
A memorial fund has been established.
