TAMA ­ Arthur Blackcloud Sr., age 80, of the Meskwaki Settlement died on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown due to a lengthy illness. Traditional Graveside Services will be held on Monday, December 4, 2006 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement. A wake was held Sunday evening at the Bear Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama.
Arthur was born on November 15, 1926 on the Meskwaki settlement, the son of George and Me Si Ko Na (Mitchell) Blackcloud. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In October 1949, he was united in marriage to Frances I. Poweshiek. Arthur was a retired construction worker. He was a member of American Legion Robert-Morgan Post #701.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances Poweshiek Blackcloud, daughter Annette Blackcloud, son Arthur Blackcloud Jr., and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include three daughters Arlene Blackcloud, Reba Blackcloud, and Connie F. Blackcloud all of Tama; two adopted daughters Adrianne Mauskemo and Jackie Lasley both of Tama; an adopted son Homer Bear Jr. of Tama; and a brother Wilford Blackcloud of Tama.
