Bernice Nieman, 88, of Tama, formerly of Clutier and Toledo, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 2, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Bobby Shomo officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Bernice was born on December 8, 1923 in rural Toledo, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Florence (Pennell) Hines. She attended Howard Township #5 School and graduated from Toledo High School in 1941.
Bernice was united in marriage to Frank A. Nieman on September 5, 1942 in Lancaster, MO. She loved cooking, baking and watching cooking shows. She also enjoyed camping, country western and polka music. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Frank in 1993; one son, Leo P. Nieman; two grandsons, Joel Lee Nieman and Rodger Roberts Jr.; a brother in infancy; a son-in-law, Duane Noe; and a daughter-in-law, Willa Nieman.
Survivors include her children, Doris J. (Dennis) Novotny of Tama, Betty J. Noe of Tama, Sharlene K. (Rodger) Roberts of Laurel, and Jerry L. (Marian) Nieman of Clutier; twenty grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Combs of Belle Plaine; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
