TOLEDO-Beryl Flora Victoria Yates Wagner, age 88, of Marshalltown and formerly of Toledo, died April 10, 2010 at Villa Del Sol in Marshalltown under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Charles Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held Monday, April 12, 2010 from 4-7 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Beryl was born on June 28, 1921, in Watford, Herts, England, the daughter of Percy Leonard and Flora Emily (Cole) Yates.
She graduated from Miss Wilshon private school and finished her schooling at Salialloris College at Abotts Langley, Herts, England. She worked in several positions and served in the W.V.S. and A.R.P. while in England during World War II.
On January 12, 1945, she was united in marriage to Carl August Wagner in Watford, England. They came to the U.S. on March 19, 1946. They tenant farmed in Traer, Iowa and later bought a house on East Madison Street in Toledo. There were three children born to this marriage, Carl, Janice and Wendy.
Beryl attended the E.U.B. church in Toledo for several years where she was active in the woman's group. She enjoyed poetry and writing poems and was awarded several Golden Poem awards. Beryl enjoyed church, friends and family.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Carl in 1986; and a son-in-law, Gary Jordan.
Survivors include her children, Carl (Virginia) Wagner of Chelsea, Janice (the late Gary) Jordan of Marshalltown and Wendy (Dennis) Tingwald of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established.
