July 2, 1928 – July 18, 2022
Bette Jean Halterman Rosheim, 94, died July 18, 2022 in her home in Eagan, MN. A Memorial Service to celebrate Bette's life will be held Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral home in Tama, Iowa with Pastor Warren Riley officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama.
Bette is survived by her children John (Haya) of Richmond, California; Mark of Vancouver, Washington; Matthew (Kay) of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and Edward (Cheryl) of Woodbury, Minnesota. Grandchildren Laura (Adam) Hayes of West Des Moines, Iowa and Erik (Jianna) of Norfolk, Nebraska and Michael and Natalie of Woodbury. Bette also has one great-granddaughter, Emma Hayes of West Des Moines, Iowa. Bette was preceded in death by her husband Ed; parents John and Mabel Halterman and siblings, Wendall, Delmar, Ruth and Norine.
Bette was born July 2, 1928 in Collins, Iowa. Being the youngest and wanting to go to school like her siblings, she begged her parents to start school early. There was no kindergarten at the time, so at age 4 Bette enrolled in 1st grade. After graduating from Roland High School in 1945, at age 16, Bette earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics at the University of Northern Iowa (Iowa State Teacher College). After teaching one year in Collins, Iowa she married Edward Rosheim in 1950. They moved to Tama, Iowa where Ed worked as a pharmacist at the Soleman & Platt Rexall Drug store and Bette taught Home Economics in Chelsea, Iowa. They soon bought the drug store, renaming it Rosheim Rexall and Bette taught one more year in Tama, Iowa. Bette's keen sense of design and love of decorating was put to use at the large gift department at the drug store where she spent many hours building attractive displays with the new merchandise she and Ed purchased together.
Her training as a Home Economics teacher set the foundation for countless sewing, art and craft projects throughout her life. She was also active in the Tama community, organizing multiple fund-raisers and functions for the betterment of the town including helping to start Meals on Wheels for people in the Tama-Toledo area. Bette started playing golf when she married Ed and came to love the game. Between Ed, herself and her four sons they collected a number of golf trophies over the years.
Bette lived in the family home in Tama from 1953 until 2015, when she moved to Eagan, Minnesota to be closer to her family. Bette had moved many times as a child so felt it was "heaven" to stay in the same house to raise their four sons. In Bette's words, "we've had a great time in Tama. The years here have been good to us."
Memorials may be directed to the Tama Public Library.
