Obituary

Betty Lou Altmaier, 94, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Warren Riley officiating. Interment will be held at a future date at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 10-11 AM at the funeral home.

Betty was born on February 15, 1930, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Omar and Lillie (Harem) Kjormoe.

She graduated from Dunbar High School and then attended beauty school.

Betty was married to Robert Matheson and then she married Dale Altmaier. Both marriages ended in divorce.

Betty was a beautician for forty years and had her own shop in Tama and Toledo. She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Betty liked shopping and attending social functions.

Survivors include her sister, Mildred Lathrop of Marshalltown; step-brother, Gary Nodruft of MO; grandchildren, Chris Smith of Tama, Robert Smith of Greenwood Village, CO and Amber Matheson of TX; son-in-law, Bill Smith of Tama; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Doug Matheson; daughter, Connie Smith; granddaughter, Crystal Leyendecker; sisters, Dorothy Dobson, Ruby Brittain, Sandy Shelton and Norma Hauser; and brother, Richard Kjormoe.

A memorial fund will be established.
