TRAER- Betty Ann Benda, age 81, a resident of Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer, died Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the care center following a short illness. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 10:30 AM at National Cemetery in rural Vining. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30 from 5 to 7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Betty was born on August 3, 1927 in rural Dysart the daughter of Dewey and Lulu (Drews) Lorenzen. Betty was one year old when her mother died, and she was then raised by her aunts and uncles. She graduated from Geneseo High School in 1945. She was united in marriage to Marvin Lee Benda on December 27, 1952 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Betty was a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing. Betty also raised ducks and geese.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Marvin on November 10, 2008;
Survivors include two sons, Rick (Marie) Benda, and Ron (Julie) Benda all of Gladbrook; a daughter Penny (Jim) Dolezal of Tama; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elsie (Harold) Mitchell of Dysart.
A memorial fund has been established.
