Obituary

TOLEDO- Betty Jean Black Stephenson, age 81, of Greenville, NC, formerly of Toledo, died Friday, October 2, 2009 at her home. A visitation to greet family and friends will be held on Saturday, October 10th from 11AM to 12 noon at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. A private family interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Friends are welcome to meet at Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo for a luncheon and further fellowship following the interment.
Betty was born October 14, 1927 in Linn County Iowa to Earl and Leona Couplin Potter. Betty fell in love with and was united in marriage to Jim Black. Together they raised five daughters in Toledo. Upon Jim's death, Betty relocated to Virginia Beach, VA. In 1986, Betty married Steve Stephenson, and they resided in Greenville, NC. She was a devoted member of the Church of Christ, Winterville, NC, and in her spare time she enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, golf and family.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Maxine Lots; a brother, Earl Potter; and widowed by the death of Jim Black and Steve Stephenson.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Moore of Greenville, NC, Barbara (Richard) Leland of Virginia Beach, VA, Debra (Ron) Henle of Mt. Pleasant, Karen (Don) Musgrave of Toledo, and Jody (Lance) Horbach of Tama; one sister Margaret Dunshee of Marion; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen, soon to be eighteen great-grandchildren, and many friends.
A memorial fund has been established.
