Calvin Louis Schroeder, 88, of Tama, passed away August 31, 2017 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Private graveside services will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in rural Tama with Pastor Catherine Burroughs officiating.


Calvin was born on April 9, 1929, in rural Tama County Iowa, the son of Louis and Frieda(Wagner) Schroeder. He attended country schools. Calvin helped his father farm and later moved into town with his parents. In his younger years, he liked to go fishing. Calvin was a resident of Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama for nearly thirty years. The staff and residents became a second family to Calvin. He raised the flag outside daily and also help fold towels. Calvin enjoyed playing bingo, bean bags, and checkers. He loved music, his favorite being Lawrence Welk. He also liked watching Iowa Public Television especially Thomas the Train and Curious George.


Survivors include a special niece, Sue and husband Gary Schneider of Guttenberg, sister-in-law, Delia Ann Schroeder of Tama; cousin, Norman and wife Jo Schroeder of Grinnell; and several other nieces and nephews.


Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Carl Schroeder; and sisters, Leola Wacha and Marlene Hamilton


Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church in rural Tama or Iowa Public Television.
