Obituary

Calvin Mark Youngbear, 61, of Tama passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 at his home on the Meskwaki Settlement. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Alex Walker Jr. as speaker. A Traditional Wake will be held Monday evening, July 7, 2014 at the Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement.

Calvin was born on January 26, 1953, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Curtis and Josephine Mitchell Youngbear.
He graduated from South Tama High School in 1971 and attended the University of Colorado for one year.
Calvin served his country in the U.S. Army.
On January 21, 1984, he married Oona Walker in Aiken, South Carolina.
Calvin farmed and was an Ironworker. He enjoyed reading, watching old movies and spending time with family.
Survivors include his wife, Oona Youngbear of Tama; three daughters, Noelle Youngbear of Tama, Maureen Youngbear of Des Moines and Elaine Youngbear of Tama; five grandchildren, Sadako Begaye, Alaysia and Nathaniel Palmarez, Kelley OldBear and Zoe Youngbear-Davis all of Tama; four sisters, Judith Bender, Donna Wolf and Robin (Luke) Kapayou all of Tama and Karlene (Arleigh) Armajo of Ethete, WY; two brothers, Ellsworth Youngbear Sr. of Tama and Jonathan Youngbear of Tennessee; his adopted mothers, Gene Waseskuk and Pat Brown; his adopted brother, Darrel Wanatee of Tama; and two adopted sisters, Staphne Whitebreast and Lynn Morgan both of Tama.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Richard C., Victor, Curtis Jr., Wanda and Juanita Youngbear.
