Obituary

MONTOUR-Carole E. Moffett, age 92, a resident of Carrington Place of Toledo and formerly of Montour, died on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at the care center under the care of Iowa Hospice following a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 23, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Montour. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 22, 2008 from 4-7 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Carole Moffett was born on March 15, 1916, in Montour, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Dora (Wall) Smith. She graduated from Montour High School and was the oldest living graduate of the school at the time of her death. Carole also attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls to get her teaching certificate. On February 19, 1938, she was united in marriage to Murry J. Moffett in Newton, Iowa. They made their home in Highland Township all of their married life. Carole was a homemaker and also taught country school in Carlton Township, the Meskwaki Settlement School, and various other schools in Tama County. She also worked for Delongs in Grinnell. Carole was famous for her pies. She also enjoyed all kinds of crafts and quilting. Carole was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church in Montour, Highland Ladies Aid, Farm Bureau, and was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star. Carole and Murry hosted elections for Highland Township, voting in their garage for many years.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Murry in 1998; one daughter, Sarah Jane Moffett; four sisters; and two brothers.
Survivors include four sons, Sidney (Sherry) Burns of Las Vegas, NV, Joel (Shirley) Moffett of Carrollton, TX, Ken (Barbara) Moffett of Minneapolis, MN, and Bruce (Josie) Moffett of Houston, TX; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Maureen Moffett of Marshalltown; one brother-in-law, Calvin Moffett of Tama; and several nieces and nephews.
