TOLEDO-Carroll Francis "Cap" Moyer, age 81, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa under the care of Mahaska Hospice. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Monday, April 13, 2009 from 5-8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Carroll was born on July 2, 1927, north of Toledo, the son of Amiel and Alice (Schafer) Moyer.
On December 7, 1949, he was united in marriage to Hazel Backen at the St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Tama. "Cap" was a life-long farmer, raising crops and cattle. He enjoyed horses, attending rodeos, horse shows and sales. He thoroughly enjoyed the country life, and never retired from farming.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers-in-law, Walter Schwartz and Elmo Tomlinson.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel of Toledo; four children, Linda (Bob) Ogan of Montezuma, Sandra (Danny) Peitz of Grinnell, Dale (Connie) Moyer of Grinnell and Rick (Sandy) Moyer of Brooklyn; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor Tomlinson of Gilman and Lucille Schwartz of East Moline, IL.
