TOLEDO-Celestine Joseph "C.J." Wobeter, 96, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Carrington Place of Toledo under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier. Visitation will be held Monday, October 11, 2010 from 5-7 PM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama where there will be a Vigil Service at 7 PM.
Celestine was born on February 19, 1914 in Otter Creek Township, rural Toledo, the son of James and Jennie (Kupka) Wobeter.
On October 1, 1935, he was united in marriage to Frances Mary Kucera at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in rural Clutier. He was engaged in farming until retirement. C.J. was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, Knights of Columbus, K.D. Lodge and Catholic Foresters. He volunteered for many local organizations over the years, especially Meals on Wheels.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Frances on January 15, 2009; a daughter, Mary Ann; four sisters, Albia Upah, Lucille Grabenbauer, Elizabeth Dvorak, and Lottie in infancy; and three brothers, William Wobeter, James Wobeter and Edward Wobeter.
Survivors include eight children, Larry (Liz) Wobeter of Montrose, CO, Sr. Celeste Wobeter of Notre Dame Sisters, Omaha, NE, Tony (Gaylen) Wobeter of Iowa City, Paul (Paulette) Wobeter of Toledo, Leo (Linda) Wobeter of Vinton, Peter (Berleen) Wobeter of Toledo, Annie (Jeff) Brill of Ham Lake, MN and Debra (Jeff) Heil of Haverhill; eighteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established.
