TOLEDO-Charles R. "Chuck" Dennis, age 68, of Toledo died Sunday, October 3, 2010 at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Funeral Services and Masonic Rites will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Jerry Evelsizer officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Charles was born on December 1, 1941 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Gilbert and Elsie (Brundis) Dennis.
He attended Hawkeye Tech for half a year for electronics. Charles served his country in the U.S. Navy.
On June 24, 1978, he was united in marriage to Mary Malin at the Tama County Lake. He retired from Bituminous Material & Supply in Tama. He previously owned a Citizen Band Radio business and worked at Tama Pack. Charles was a member of Eastern Iowa Radio Club, Hiram of Tyre Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite 32nd degree, Tama County Shriners and El Kahir Shrine, Vintage Auto Shrine Unit, Minnesota Street Rod Association, Iowa Street Rod Association, the Iowa BBQ Society and the Kansas City BBQ Society, where he was recently certified as a judge. He enjoyed woodworking, football, gardening, collecting trains and politics. Charles also enjoyed fishing with his son, grandson and friends.
Preceding him in death were his sister, Donna Roberts; his father-in law and mother-in-law, Robert and Janet Malin.
Survivors include his wife Mary Dennis of Toledo; his mother, Elsie Carver of Marshalltown; one son, Ricky (Nicole) Halverson of Colo; two grandchildren, Kortnie and Tanner Halverson; a step-granddaughter, Tori Appelgate and her mother Laura Bacino; two sisters, Sandy Bergman of Glenwood, MN and Barbara (Gary) Augustine of Marshalltown; one brother, Wesley (Marti) Childe of Mankato, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Shriners Children's Hospital or Tama County Shriners Transportation Fund for Children.
