Obituary

Clyde Papakee Sr. 84, of Tama, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Monday, September 28, 2015 at 2:00 PM at McIntosh Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Larry Lasley as speaker. A Traditional Wake will be held Sunday evening at Clyde's home, 455 Springs Rd., Tama, Iowa.

Clyde was born on April 3, 1931, in Delia, Kansas, the son of James and Josephine (O'Bennick) Papakee.
He joined the U.S. Marines soon after graduating high school. He then went and fought in Korea with Fox Company, 2nd Bat. 7th M, 1st Mar Div FMF and got wounded in action as machine gunner for which he received the Purple Heart. He was recently honored for participating in the first vertical envelopment during the Korean Conflict.
Clyde attended Haskell Institute, Hawkeye Tech, Marshalltown Community College and the National Ironworkers Training program for American Indians in Chicago, IL.
He married Geneva Poweshiek on October 24, 1956 in St. Mary's, KS. Clyde was a welder, auto mechanic and a retired iron worker. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Clyde Papakee Jr of Toledo, Brian Papakee and Lamont Papakee both of Tama; four daughters, Clydene (Adolph) Bear, Monica Papakee, Alicia (Odie Oldbear) Papakee and Kelly Sam all of Tama; grandchildren, Lucius and Travis Bear, James, Jewel, Lorilyn, Elizabeth and Levi Papakee, Esabel Garcia, Nathan Seymour, Kiedis Oldbear, Maria, Ernie Jr., Samantha, Ezra and Kyla Sam, Narissa and Nastrisha Banks; twenty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; three brothers, Rodney Papakee of Tama, Richard Papakee of Cedar Rapids and Badger Wahwahsuck of Mayetta, KS; two sisters, Velma W. Harjo of Mayetta, KS and Patricia Brown of Tama; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Geneva on August 22, 2014; three daughters, Lori Lynne Papakee, Tracy Lynne Papakee and Jonette Lincoln; one sister, Wilma Jane Papakee; and three brothers, Frank "Mat" Matsapto, Bernard and Reginald Papakee.
