Connie Jo Smith, 69, of Tama, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Warren Riley officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Monday, June 12, 2023 from 10-11 AM at the funeral home.

Connie was born on August 20, 1953, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Betty (Kjormoe) Matheson.

She graduated from South Tama High School in 1971 and then attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.

On June 21, 1980 she was united in marriage to William Smith at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Connie worked at GTE, Iowa Telecom, then Windstream and was the Chelsea Postmaster for a period of time. Over the years, she enjoyed horseback riding, camping and sailing. Caring for her pets was an important part of her life.

Survivors include her husband, Bill of Tama; two sons, Robert Smith of Greenwood Village, CO and Christopher Smith of Tama; her mother, Betty Altmaier of Toledo; and her niece, Amber Matheson; several cousins, aunts, uncles and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert (Donna) Matheson; brother, Doug Matheson; and niece, Crystal Leyendecker.

A memorial fund will be established.
