Obituary

Curtis Dale Seymour, 70, passed away Monday, June 15, 2026 at home due to a sudden illness. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 18, 2026 from 5-8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 19, 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Meskwaki Tribal Center Gym, rural Tama. A Private Family Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama.

Curtis was born on July 27, 1955, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Frank and Pat (Blocker) Seymour.

Curtis was married to Marcia Giesking from 1979-1992 and to this union was born Ryan Curtis, Eric Michael and Brooke Sophia. He was married to Rachele Bennett from 1994-2017 and to this union was born Jordan Karrinne, Jade Keannajean, and Jonah Curtis, and stepdaughter, Joslin Kristeen. Curtis then married Lisa McKown from 2017-2019.

He was employed as a director of Public Works for the Meskwaki Tribe and retired after twenty-five years. Prior to being a director, he worked for the DOT and Casino.

Curtis performed with his brothers in the award-winning bands, TEXAS, Legend and White Swan. He was instrumental in planning the MSS High School expansion, as well as the development of the walking path, building the roads, and developing the water system for the Settlement. Curtis was known for his sense of humor, his laughter, and jokes. He loved his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed his music, playing guitar, golf, and solitaire. He was also known for his collecting.

Survivors include his mother; Patsy Seymour of Tama; children, Ryan Seymour of Marshalltown, Eric Seymour of Marshalltown, Brooke Seymour (Jesse Adkins) of Marshalltown, Jordan Seymour (Jordan Bradley) of Tiffin, Jade Seymour (Dawson Davenport) of Tama, and Jonah Seymour of Cedar Rapids; step-daughter, Joslin (Peter) Gessner of Charleston, SC; twenty-five grandchildren; siblings, Norman (Cheryl) Seymour of Tama, Dwayne Seymour of Tama, Charlie Seymour of Tama, Michelle (Tom) Grimes of Toledo, and Ira Dean (Megan) Seymour of Tama; aunt, Iola Snow; several nieces, nephews, and adopted family members.

Curtis was preceded in death by his grandparents, Melvin and Tina Blocker, Sophia Seymour; father, Frank Curtis Seymour; brother, Bruce Wayne Seymour; nephew, Ezra Seymour; niece, Danielle Seymour; and several aunts and uncles.
