TOLEDO-Dale Edgar Smith, age 56, of Toledo, died on Thursday, January 11, 2007, at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center due to a sudden illness. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 15, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Christ United Methodist Church Worship Center in Toledo with Pastor Mary Schnepf officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in rural Toledo. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2007 from 5-8 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Dale Edgar Smith was born on June 8, 1950, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Edgar and Lucille (Dahms) Smith.
He married Arla Taft in 1971 and they later divorced.
Dale had previously been self-employed in construction and also was a truck driver. He most recently was employed by Ruan Trucking in Marshalltown. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and his dogs, Susie and Bear.
Preceding him in death were his father, Edgar; and one niece, Angela Benda.
Survivors include his mother, Lucille Smith of Toledo; his four children, Buffy Wilson of Garwin, Christina (Emilio) Cruz of Marshalltown, Jennifer Anderson of New Providence, and John Smith of Spirit Lake; two sisters, Sharon (Joe) Westover of Fortuna, CA, and Joan (Lee) Meppelink of Las Vegas, Nevada; three grandchildren, Joshua Smith, Mikayla Smith and Taylor Cruz; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
