TAMA-Darlene A. Mikkelson, age 81, of Tama, died Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Dewey Grimes officiating. Interment will follow at Haven Cemetery in rural Tama. Visitation will be held on Thursday May 27 from 12 noon until time of service at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Darlene was born on June 30, 1928 at Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Rose (Uchytil) Gebhardt. She attended country school in the Toledo area. Darlene worked as a cashier and server at various businesses in the Tama-Toledo area, most recently in the gift shop at Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel. She attended the Tama Assembly of God Church. Darlene was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family and working in her yard and garden.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Survivors include one brother, Freddie Gebhardt of Toledo; one nephew, Lester Gebhardt of Toledo; one niece, Betty Anne (Gene) Lacina of Tama; two great-nieces; and one great-nephew.
A memorial fund has been established.
