Darrell LaVerne Hunnicutt, 86, of Normal IL, formerly of Montour and Tama, passed away Monday, December 8th, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Public visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014, from 11 am – 1 pm at Kruse Phillips Funeral Home in Tama, IA. A private graveside service will be held at Grandview Cemetery in rural Tama with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating.
Darrell was born on January 26, 1928 at home in the Grandview community south of Tama, the son of William Arthur and Ella Lois (Cory) Hunnicutt. He attended country school at Columbia #6 and graduated in 1946 from Tama High School.
On September 8, 1948, he married Doris Dailey at the First Methodist Church in Tama, Iowa. They lived in several areas, but spent their last twenty years together in rural Montour, Iowa. Darrell worked for Fisher Controls (Emerson) in Marshalltown for thirty two years, retiring in September 1986. Doris passed away on January 28,1991. Darrell was united in marriage to Janet (Hartsell) Grupp on March 25,1995 and they resided in Normal, IL for the last twenty years.
Survivors include his wife Janet, of Normal IL; four children, James (Cathy) Hunnicutt of Marshalltown, Vicki (Jess) Coatney of Lantana, TX; Mark (Marna) Hunnicutt of Marshalltown; and Lisa (Mario) Almanza of Gladbrook; five grandchildren Jeremy Brubaker of Gladbrook, Joshua Brubaker of Gladbrook and Jerica Brubaker, stationed at Pearl Harbor, HI, Jessica Reynolds of Grinnell and Brian Hunnicutt of Audubon IA ; nine great-grandchildren; three step children, Denise (Mike) Grupp-Verbon of Toledo OH, Martin (Jennifer) Grupp of Bloomington IL; Emilee Grupp (Jeff Jones) and grand-daughters Kelli and Audrey Jones of Carlock IL, two brothers, Robert Hunnicutt of Scappoose OR, Carroll Hunnicutt of Mount Pleasant, IA; and a sister-in-law Patricia Hunnicutt of Columbus Junction, IA.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Doris; one brother, Leon; and a brother and sister in infancy.
A memorial fund has been established.
