David LaVerne Bartling, 61, of Tama, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, with his mother, aunt Janet and best friend Joe by his side. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Warren Riley officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 2, 2016 from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
David was born on July 25, 1954, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of LaVerne and Shirley (Hagge) Bartling.
David attended South Tama Community Schools, graduating with the Class of 1973.
David was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 17, his senior year of high school. He has lived in the Tama Community his entire life.
David was baptized and confirmed as a Lutheran at St. Paul Lutheran church in Tama, Iowa. During high school David was employed by Bill Norton's Tiling Soil Conservation. After graduation, he worked for Tama County as a janitor at the courthouse and jail for twenty years. David then took employment at the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel until the present time.
David loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, both football and basketball. He was also a big NASCAR race fan, never missing a race at Newton. He loved going to his nieces and nephews school activities, also teasing them very much, bringing them treats back from the store. David was a very caring person always thinking of and helping others before himself.
Survivors include his mother, Shirley Bartling of Tama; two sisters, Donnetta (Roger) Hinkle of Toledo and Tamara Bartling of Tama; two brothers, Bradley (Shannon) Bartling and Daniel Bartling both of Tama; two brothers-in-law, Randy Lavoie of Rochester, MN and Scott Shadden of Tama; nieces, Megan Phillips, Sue (Scott) Mandelkow, Autumn and Kayla Bartling; nephews, Cody (Caitlynn) Bartling, Brody and Coby Bartling; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, LaVerne "Vernie" Bartling in 2013; one sister, Sharon Kay Lavoie in 2007; and his grandparents.
David will be greatly missed and loved forever.
