Obituary

TAMA- David Allen Peters, age 49, of the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama, was found deceased in his home on Friday, October 17, 2008. Traditional graveside services will be held on Monday, October 20, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Larry Lasley Sr. as speaker. A traditional wake will be held Sunday evening at the Eagle Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements.
David was born on March 21, 1959 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Leodean Peters and Judy (Le Clere) Brown. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids. David served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1979 until 1980. He was a member of Oakland Nazarene Church in Cedar Rapids. David worked for Dave Schmidt Construction in Cedar Rapids. He loved nature and enjoyed camping, fishing, and earlier in life enjoyed hunting. David was a gifted musician and played the guitar in several musical groups and later formed the Dave Peters Band. He also enjoyed woodworking in his basement workshop. David took great pride in landscaping his home. He also enjoyed the company of his five cats.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Albert "Brownie" Brown; and grandfather, Raymond Le Clere.
Survivors include his mother, Judy Brown of Cedar Rapids; father, Leodean (Joyce) Peters of Montour; son, Josh Van Deek of Cedar Rapids; grandmother, Beatrice Le Clere of Cedar Rapids; six brothers, Kevin Peters, and John Brown both of Charleston, SC, Dr. Steven Ponder of Corpus Christi, TX, Shawn Peters of California, and Shannon Peters, and Michael Erickson both of Tama; and one sister Deanna Peters of California.
