David Allen Sloyer was born on October 14, 1967. David’s life came to an unexpected end on June 20, 2026, following a motorcycle accident in Louisville, Kentucky.
At the age of three, David was adopted by Raymond and Bertha Sloyer. His family moved several times before eventually settling in Traer, Iowa, where David graduated from North Tama High School in 1985. After high school, David enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served four years of active duty. He later enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard, where he served for 20 years. David was honored by the opportunities his military service provided and was grateful for the many places and experiences it allowed him to see.
David married Kay Dinsdale in 1985, and together they had two children, Jessica (Sammy) Bryan and Anthony (Lacy) Sloyer. David and Kay later divorced. In 1993, David welcomed a daughter, Cassie (Zach) Pothast. David married Julianna Lass in 1996, and they had two children, Marisa (Tristan) Ingalls and Dalton Sloyer. They later divorced. In 2006, David married Michelle Calderwood and adopted Riley Sloyer. They later divorced. David was blessed with many grandchildren.
David’s later years were spent working for Yulista as a Quality Aviation Inspector III. His career allowed him to travel and experience life to the fullest. When he wasn’t working, David could often be found spending time with his friends, riding his motorcycle, hunting, or fishing.
David had a big heart and was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back. At the same time, he was never afraid to tell you exactly how he felt and give you his honest opinion. That was simply David being David.
Over the last 10 years of his life, David was fortunate enough to reconnect with his birth family. He was incredibly grateful to have found that connection and to be welcomed and accepted with open arms.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Bertha Sloyer; his sister, Shelly Sloyer; his brother, Jerry Sloyer and both biological parents.
David’s Celebration of Life will be held on August 29, 2026, at Majestic Moon in Waterloo, Iowa. The celebration will begin at 5:00 p.m. All are welcome to come together to remember, celebrate, and share stories about David and the life he lived.
