TAMA- Delmar Clarence McFate, age 89, of Tama died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, three days short of his 90th birthday, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 23, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Dewey Grimes officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 22, 2010 from 5 – 8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Delmar Clarence McFate was born on April 24, 1920, in Sheridan Township, rural Tama, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Miriam (Tahash) McFate.
He graduated from Tama High School. He was a member of the 1939 Tama Hawks state qualifying team in baseball.
On October 25, 1941, he was united in marriage to Edna Mikkelson in Lancaster, Missouri. Delmar formerly worked at the Paper Mill as a power plant operator and retired in 1982. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Edna in 1999; one brother, Kenny McFate; four sisters, Mildred Petersen, Velma Noe, Beulah Pagel and Leona Faught.
Survivors include two sons, Ron (Lucy) McFate of Estes Park, CO and and Mark (Christine) McFate of Toledo; two daughters, Danna (Wayne) Peterson of Spring Hill, FL and Marlene (Dennis) Burkheimer of Ames; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Rachel Stephenson of Loveland, CO; one brother-in-law, Paul Pagel of Tama; and many nieces and nephews.
