Dolores Marie Asmussen, 92, of Marshalltown and formerly of Chelsea, passed away Monday, August 14, 2023 at Glenwood Place in Marshalltown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 21, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Chelsea. Visitation will be held Monday, August 21, 2023 from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church.

Dolores was born on March 26, 1931, in Hartwick, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Leona (McIlrath) Martens.

She graduated from Hartwick High School, where she played Basketball. She then attended business school at AIB in Des Moines. In 1955, she was united in marriage to Frank Asmussen at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Dolores helped Frank on the farm and worked at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama for thirty years. She also sorted corn for Pioneer and made wreaths at the Belle Plaine Nursery.

Dolores was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chelsea, where she was involved in the Altar and Rosary Society. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed growing flowers and watching Iowa Hawkeyes Basketball.

Survivors include her children, Julie Asmussen of Urbandale, Janie (Joseph) Romano of Ames, Janine (Alan) Grombacher of Saskatchewan, Canada, Jody Asmussen of Chelsea, Joy (Joel) Wolter of Denver, IA and Jon (Lisa) Asmussen of Dysart; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brother, Don (Dorothy) Martens of Tama; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Frank in 1992; son, Jim Asmussen; and brother, Bernard Martens.
