Obituary

TAMA-Donald Lee Kasal, age 89, of Tama, died on Monday, March 24, 2008 in Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama due to a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2008 from 5-7 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Donald Lee Kasal was born on March 5, 1919, in rural Chelsea, Iowa, the son of Charles and LaVonne (DuPre) Kasal.
He graduated from Toledo High School in 1938.
He was united in marriage to Ruth O'Harra on September 28, 1940, in Bethany, MO and this union was blessed with two daughters, Larrie Lee and Carol Ann.
He farmed and trucked for nineteen years and was a car salesman for local dealers for twenty-eight years.
He married Shirley (Abbott) Hill on November 16, 1991 in Tama, Iowa. Donald was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama, Past President of Tama Lions Club and the Tama-Toledo Country Club. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Tama for over fifty years. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and going to the casino.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his first wife, Ruth; one great-grandson, Chaz Masker; one brother, Charles Kasal; and four sisters, Maxine Wilson, Irma Bussey, Violet Sorenson, and Betty Flynn.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Tama; two daughters, Larrie (Will) Masker of Tama and Carol (Wes) Hoover of LeGrand; one step-daughter, Nanci (Paul) Loney of Brandon, SD; one step-son Jeff (Barb) Hill of Kansas City, MO; one brother, Roger (Sonja) Kasal of Toledo; one sister-in-law, Imy Kasal of Waukee; four grandchildren, Rodney (Teresa) Masker of Phoenix, AZ, Julie (Don) Lillibridge of Marshalltown, Heather (Chad) Gould of Marshalltown, and Chad Hoover of LeGrand; two step-grandchildren, Sam and Emily Loney of Brandon, SD; six great-grandchildren, Austin Masker, Jacob, Tyler, Hayley Lillibridge, and Gabriel and Carlin Gould; and several nieces and nephews.
