Donald Carl McFate, 91, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the State Center Specialty Care. A Memorial Graveside Service will be held Friday, January 27, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Rose Hill Cemetery in rural Toledo.

Donald was born on October 12, 1931, in rural Toledo, Iowa, the son of Carl and Mayme (Dixon) McFate.

He attended country school and then started farming.

Donald served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He married Le Ora Bigelow at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Don farmed Northwest of Toledo and for a short time in State Center. Don loved to read Lone Ranger books all the time and watch western shows on TV until his eyesight got bad. He also liked to follow Hawkeye Basketball.

Survivors include his daughter, Darlene McFate of Urbandale; son-in-law, Allen Carnes of Beaman; three grandchildren, Eric Carnes, Austin (Liz) Carnes and Chelsea (Jared) McRill; four great-grandchildren, Barrett and Sterling Carnes, Ian and Emily McRill; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Le Ora; his daughter, Judy Carnes; three brothers, LaVerne McFate, Wayne McFate and Robert McFate; and one sister, Helen Miler.

A memorial fund will be established.
