Donald Daryl Moore, 87, of Tama, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015 at his home in Tama. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Dewey Grimes officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo with Military Honors. Visitation will be held Monday, September 28, 2015 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Donald was born on April 21, 1928, on a farm in Poweshiek County near Malcom, Iowa, the son of James and Martha (Carroll) Moore. He was raised and educated in the central Iowa area. He graduated from Dunbar in the Class of 1945. Donald served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict for two years. On October 10, 1959, he married Leona Bidwell in Barron, Wisconsin. Donald was employed at Joslin's wood preserving plant in Tama from 1947 until the time it closed in 1960. After that, he was employed by Borglum tiling in Toledo and then Fisher Controls in Marshalltown from 1960 until retirement in 1990. Donald enjoyed raising stock cows and calves and did some part time farming until moving to town in 1999. Donald was a sixty-five year member of Fraternal Order of Eagles and a sixty-year member of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing in Canada and local lakes along with woodworking of all kinds. He also enjoyed playing cards, word puzzles and board games. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and grandkids.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-six years, Leona of Tama; his children, Barb (Kenny) Backen of Tama and Robert (Patti) Youngman of Tama; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Bidwell of Tama.
Preceding him in death were his parents; five brothers, Willis "Bill", James, Harold- KIA 1945, Raymond and Edward; two sisters, Margaret Petersen and Vera Rubenbauer; two brothers-in-law; and four sisters-in-law.
A memorial fund has been established.
