MALCOM-Donald E. Skyberg, age 66, of Malcom died Monday, August 16, 2010 at home under the care of Iowa Hospice. Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama with Pastor Thomas Dowling officiating. Interment will be private. Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, August 19 from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Donald was born on December 5, 1943 in Sioux Falls, SD, the son of Oliver and Julia (Jensen) Skyberg. He graduated from Luverne High School in Luverne, MN. Donald served his country in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Patricia Fredricks on July 24, 1965 in Luverne, MN. Donald was formerly employed by the Tama Pack as a maintenance engineer. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama where he was on the board of trustees, church council, gospel group, and was a confirmation instructor. Donald was also a member of the National Hotrod Association. He enjoyed bowling, pistol target practice, drawing, and snowmobiling. Donald was a "purebred" Pontiac racer and loved drag racing his Pontiac Firebirds.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Georgia Hagedorn in 2009; a granddaughter, Taylor Skala; a twin sister, Delores Walters; and a brother, Robert Skyberg.
Survivors include his wife Patricia Skyberg of Malcom; children, Gene (Vickie) Skyberg of Tama and Judy Skyberg-Skala of Toledo; son-in-law, Dan Hagedorn of Malcom; ten grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Skyberg of Ames, Morgan, Mitchell, and Megan Skyberg of Tama, Dennis (Jacque) Hagedorn of Kirksville, MO, Clinton Hagedorn of Ames, Mackenzie and Clark Skala of Toledo, and Josie Davenport of Toledo; one great granddaughter Addysyn Skyberg of Marshalltown; his siblings, Eunice (Donald) Wynn of Mounds View, MN, Edith (Clarence) Else of Alexandria, MN, David (Beverly) Skyberg of Fargo, ND, James Skyberg of Dell Rapids, SD, Steven (Deborah) Skyberg of Dilworth, MN, Dale Skyberg of Casper, WY, Donna (John) O'Donnell of Ellsworth, MN, Janis Otterson of LeMars, IA, Greg (Debrah) Skyberg of Kailua-Kona, HI, and Kent (Jennifer) Skyberg of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
