Obituary

Donavon D. "Don" Rank, 80, of Tama, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 26, 2015 at 5:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Kim Pagel officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo at a future date. A Memorial Visitation will be held Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 6-8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.

Don was born on February 10, 1935, in Toledo, Iowa, the son of Loren and Blanche (Bigelow) Rank.
He graduated from Toledo High School and attended St. Paul Bible College.
He was married to Jeannene Scott on December 31, 1959 and together they had two children, Donelle and Todd. They later divorced. On December 18, 1971, he was united in marriage to Muriel Pearson Abbott in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Don started working as a boy at the family businesses, Rank's Hatchery and L-Ranko Motel in Toledo. He later worked for Pioneer for twelve years and then owned and operated several area businesses including, Rank Floor Cleaning, Rank Vending, Pagliai's Pizza, All in One Convenience Store, Rental Storage Units, Fifth Street Rental, Second Time Around Shop, Blue Grass Cafe and the Second Hand Store. Don was an avid bowler and card player. He also coached youth baseball. He enjoyed collecting antiques, coins, arrowheads and stamps. Don and Muriel enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with some of the most memorable trips being to Hawaii, Florida, California and Las Vegas. They took an Amtrak train trip from Ottumwa to Washington state. He loved to have morning coffee with his community friends. Don served on the Tama City council for two terms.
Survivors include his wife Muriel of Tama; one daughter, Donelle Young of Montour; one son, Todd Rank of Toledo; four step-daughters, Angie Bean of Columbia, MO, Landy Wiese of Cedar Rapids, Jacque Buchanan of West Des Moines and Lisa Blomme of Tama; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; his twin sister, DeLores (Bob) Shuman of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Madelyn Pagel; and one brother-in-law, Bud Pagel.
