TAMA-Donna Mae Gitautis, age 70, of Tama died Sunday, December 28, 2008 at her son's home in Tama under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Dewey Grimes officiating. Interment will follow at Koszta Cemetery in rural Marengo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Donna was born on September 21, 1938 in Redding, Iowa the daughter of Alva V. and Lela (Fowler) Zigler. She was united in marriage to William Gitautis on May 7, 1960 in Miami, OK. Donna worked as a pharmacy assistant at the Veterans Home in Marshalltown and retired from there in September of 2000 after seventeen years of service. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Toledo and the Tama County Republican Women's Club. Donna enjoyed going to the casino and playing cards. In her younger days she also enjoyed bowling.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; and a son Randal.
Survivors include five sons, Doug (Dee) Gitautis of Cameron, NC, Bill Gitautis of Tama, Rick (Kim) Gitautis of Thorton, CO, Don (Jodi) Gitautis of State Center, and Ron (Tonya) Gitautis of Tama; two step daughters, Theresa (Jim) Hill of Helotes, TX, and Cathy (Tom) Corley of Palmer Lake, CO; nine grandchildren, Stacey Gunderson, Randal, Dena, Kyle, Hailey, Kailey, Samantha, Bo, and Sydney Gitautis, step grandchildren, Stephanie and Daniel Hill, and Nicholas and Jodi Corley; a great grandson, Chase Gunderson; two step great grandchildren, Isaac Sierra and Christian Hill; a brother Leonard Zigler of Brooklyn; and a sister, Betty Kriegel of Tama.
A memorial fund has been established.
