Doris Jean Beck, 85, of Chelsea passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at her home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Charles Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 29 from 4 - 7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Doris was born on March 28, 1929 in Gladbrook, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Veva (Rank) Kline. She graduated from Gladbrook High School.
On March 6, 1949, she was united in marriage to Max Riley Beck in Gladbrook, Iowa. Doris was a supportive wife and wonderful mother to six children. She was a wonderful cook and also enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. Doris enjoyed watching basketball and included the Iowa State Cyclones and Kansas Jayhawks as some of her favorite teams. Her and her husband, Max, enjoyed dancing and playing cards especially Pepper and 500. They went to many dances and card parties during their married life together. Doris was a member of the First Congregational Church in Belle Plaine. In addition, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at the Haven Community Church for many years. She was also a member of the Gladbrook American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include four sons, Richard (Cindy Schulte) Beck of Topeka, KS, Thomas (Colleen) Beck of Bettendorf, Merlyn Beck of Ames and Bruce (Yadira) Beck of Chelsea; two daughters, Marcia (Todd) Pedersen of Marion and Tammy (Darren) Bennett of Grayson, GA; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Max on December 26, 2013; and two brothers in infancy.
A memorial fund has been established.
