Dorman Allen "Al" Young, 69, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Grand River Cemetery in Grand River, Iowa. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 4-7 PM at Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama.
Dorman was born on July 18, 1948, in Clarinda, Iowa the son of Dorman and Trevia (Hardee) Young.
He graduated from New Market High School and attended trade school for diesel mechanics. He served his country in the US Army from 1969 to 1971 in Korea. On August 25, 1973, he was united in marriage to Ginny Fear. Al had a thirty-seven year career as a mechanic at the CNW/UP railroad. Most recently, he worked part-time for Premier Estates driving the van.
He is remembered for his love of people and never met a stranger. His passion was hunting and fishing with his friends who shared his respect for the sport, guns, wildlife, and conservation. He also enjoyed word searches, reading, handing out mints, feeding the birds and squirrels in his backyard, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of forty-four years, Ginny of Toledo; two daughters, Holly Young (Sybil Schlater) of Columbia, MO and Jessica (Rodney) Licht of Victor; six grandchildren, Amanda, CJ, Jasmine, Ethan, Kyler, and Vivian; two sisters; one brother; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers; two sisters; and several other relatives.
A memorial fund has been established.
