Obituary

Dorothy Kay (Catharine Yuska) Adam, 98, of Clutier, joined her husband and heavenly family on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer with Father Michael Hutchison as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier. Visitation will be held Friday, May 11, 2018 from 5-7 PM at St. Paul Catholic Church with a Vigil Service at 7 PM.

Dorothy was born on the family farm in Tama County, Iowa, on February 18, 1920, to Joseph and Frances (Zmolek) Yuska. Dorothy was second of 14 children (eight girls and six boys). She was educated at Oneida #3 country school and graduated in 1938 from Clutier High School. Following high school, Dorothy worked as a clerk in the grocery store in Clutier.

On January 20, 1947, she was united in marriage to Edward Adam at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clutier. To this union four children were born, Ronald, Gaylen, Vicki and Nancy. Dorothy and Edward lived their entire life in the house they built in Clutier. She was still living in her home, up until her last day. After starting her family and a number of years being a homemaker, Dorothy began working for the US Postal Service as a postal clerk in Clutier retiring in 1992 after 25 years of civil service. Dorothy was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and St. Paul's Women's Society. She was also a member of the Clutier American Legion Auxiliary.

Dorothy enjoyed Polka music, especially Mollie B, Big Joe, and Clutier summer band concerts where Ed played tuba. She loved being outdoors, working in her yard and gardens, especially her flowers during the summer months and nurturing flower slips during the winter. Although Dorothy worked outside the home at the post office, she was always a homemaker, wonderful cook and baker providing her family with great Czech bakery. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her children, Ronald (Deborah) Adam of Loveland, CO, Gaylen (Laurie) Adam of Iowa City, Vicki (Kevin) Pecenka of Traer, and Nancy (Mark) Hartwell of Fort Collins, CO; grandchildren, Kimberly Bean and Ashley Ray, Courtney Pecenka and Michelle Coghlan, Jessica, Joshua and Lucas Adam, Anna Wisdom, Bert and Evan Hartwell; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Elise Coghlan, Nolan and Brooklyn Bean and Presley Ray; three sisters, Albina Krizek of Waterloo, Maxine Yanda and Betty Krezek both of Traer; two brothers, Clarence (Sharon) Yuska of Toledo, and Ronald (Ruth) Yuska of Tama; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Yuska of Georgia; many nieces and nephews.
