TOLEDO-Dorothy M. Chizek, age 93, of Boone formerly of Toledo, died Sunday, October 4, 2009 at the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 12, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Christ United Methodist Church Worship Center in Toledo with Pastor Mary Schnepf officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 12 from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements.
Dorothy was born on May 20, 1916 in rural Tama County, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Kuchynka) Suchy. On January 14, 1935, she was united in marriage to Adolph Chizek in Tama County. Dorothy and Adolph farmed north of Toledo. After their retirement they continued to reside on the farm and in later years made their home in Toledo. In recent years, Dorothy has resided at the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone. Dorothy was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo and the Z.C.B.J. Lodge.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Adolph on December 4, 2000; one sister, Anna Hanus; and one brother, Hubert Suchy.
Survivors include three daughters, Jane (Larry) Christensen of Rockford, IL, Karen Halloum of Ames, IA, and Bonnie (Gary) Grebner of Hampton, IL; three grandchildren, Scott Christensen, Michelle (Jason) Rock, and Jennifer (Tim) Gavin; and six great-grandchildren.
