Obituary

TOLEDO-Dorothy Maxine King, age 96, of Bettendorf, formerly of Toledo, died Sunday, July 27, 2008 at the Iowa Masonic Health Care Facility in Bettendorf following a lengthy illness. At the request of Dorothy and Nelson King, a joint memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2008 from 2 to 4 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Private family interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama.

Nelson E. King was born on February 14, 1909 in High Point, Iowa the son of H.M. and Naomi King, and died on February 3, 2000 in Cedar Rapids.

Dorothy was born on November 16, 1911 in Belle Plaine, the daughter of William and Julia (Flathers) Beem. She graduated from Toledo High School and the Cedar Rapids Business College. She was united in marriage to Nelson E. King on October 11, 1938 in Cedar Rapids. Dorothy was a homemaker from the time of her marriage in 1938 until 1971. In 1971, Dorothy opened Knolloak, a preschool that Dorothy operated until 1983. Dorothy became certified as a Reflexologist in 1985 and practiced until her retirement in 2003. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo, Order of the Eastern Star, and several bridge clubs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Nelson on February 3, 2000; two brothers, Walter and Elmer Beem; and two sisters Pearl and Julia Beem.
Survivors include one daughter, Sarah Jane (Hal) Dvorin of Palatine, IL; one son, David N. (Betty) King of Springboro, OH; and two grandchildren, Caroline King and David M. King both of Portland, OR.
Memorials may be directed to the Tama County Historical Museum or the Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo.
