TAMA- Dorothy J. Metz age 77, a resident of Grandview Acres in Toledo, formerly of Tama died Monday, February 5, 2007 at the center under the care of Iowa River Hospice following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 9, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Reverend Bobby Shomo officiating. Interment will follow at Oak
Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8 from 5 to 7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Dorothy was born on October 19, 1929 in Tama the daughter of Charles and Edith (Smith) Bidwell. On November 27, 1945 she married Leslie H. Metz in Lancaster, Missouri. Dorothy had worked for Marshalltown Instruments, and was also a homemaker. She was a member of Tama American Legion Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, and Living Faith United Methodist Church. Dorothy enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, playing bingo, gardening, and canning. She especially enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leslie in 1998, a son Larry in 2005, two brothers Orie Bidwell and Raymond Bidwell, and a sister-in-law Bette Bidwell.
Survivors include two sons, James Metz of Marshalltown and Terry (Becky) Metz of Marshalltown; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Leona (Don) Moore of Toledo; a brother, Leonard Bidwell of Tama; a daughter-in-law Cindy Metz of Tama; a sister-in-law and good friend Barbara Metz of Tama; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established for Iowa River Hospice.
