Dorothy Pauline Purk, 86, of Tama, passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. A Memorial Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama with Pastor Grey Boyle officiating.
Dorothy was born on February 27, 1930, in Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford and Agnes (Kubik) Mull.
She attended Tama High School.
On August 27, 1947, she was united in marriage to William Harold Purk in Tama. Dorothy was a homemaker, a waitress at King Tower and various other cafes in town. She also worked at the Tama School cafeteria and babysat. She was a member of Grace Community Church in Toledo. Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, gardening, spending time with her family, Country and Bluegrass music, reading and traveling.
Survivors include three sons, William Harold (Vickie) Purk Jr. of Tama, John (Heidi) Purk of Toledo and Dan (Janice) Purk of Tama; one daughter, Rosana Alvarez of Vinton; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Kindig of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, William on October 28, 1989; one brother, Don Mull; one sister, Margaret Youngbear; her grandparents; two nephews; and five great nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
