Obituary

Dorothy Helen Tool, 93, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 24, 2018 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama with Pastor Warren Riley officiating. Interment will be follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Monday, September 24, 2018 from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the church.

Dorothy was born on July 26, 1925, in Nebraska, the daughter of Louis and Sophia (Rippke) Nielsen.

She graduated from Hinton High School.

On November 30, 1947, she was united in marriage to Herman Tool in Sioux City. Dorothy was a bank teller prior to her marriage and worked at Armour Packing Plant in Sioux City where she met her husband, Herman. After moving to Toledo, she worked as a waitress at Big T in Toledo. Dorothy was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama where she was very active especially with the school kits and Lutheran World Relief quilts. She liked playing cards with her weekly card group at the Senior Center. Dorothy enjoyed coffee's with her Big T friends. Her hobbies included sewing, baking, and working in her flower garden. She also loved her birds and crossword puzzles. Her greatest priorities in her life were her faith and her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Lisa (Kenny) Burke of Marshalltown and Stacey (Brian) Tool-Crawford of Conrad; one daughter-in-law, Janette Tool of Garwin; seven grandchildren, Rebecca (Casey) Madison, Darin (Kaitlin) Tool, Heather Davis, Shane (Nicole) Davis, Christopher (Lauren) Crawford, Nick Crawford (Kate Schillinger), and Laura Crawford; one sister, Margaret Ann Shay of Cedar Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Herman in 1991; one son, David Tool; one great-grandson, Mario Sanchez; one sister, Loretta Behrens; one brother, Merlon Ludwig; and a special friend, Dean Cruikshank.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
