TOLEDO-Dorothy Ann Vest, 78, of Toledo, passed away Monday, August 29, 2011 at Carrington Place of Toledo under the care of Iowa Hospice. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Friday, September 2, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Deacon Joe Behounek as celebrant. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 5 - 7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Dorothy was born on August 17, 1933, in Toledo, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Burton and LaRoka (Byerly) Whalin.
She graduated from Toledo High School.
On June 4, 1955, she was united in marriage to John "Jack" Vest in Boone, Iowa. Dorothy was formerly a special education teacher helping with handicap children. After raising her family, she became involved with the Kids Corner Daycare from 1981 to 1999, serving as director for fourteen years. Dorothy was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where she was in the choir and CCW. She was in the same bridge group for around fifty years. Dorothy was a great mother adored dearly by her children and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Jack in 2007; and one daughter, Kathleen.
Survivors include her five children, John (Lisa) Vest of Frisco, TX, Kelly (Jayne) Vest of Newton, Jeffrey (Rachel) Vest of Colorado Springs, CO, Tony (Patricia) Vest of Corinth, TX and Angela Vest of Toledo; eleven grandchildren; one sister, Catherine Dexter of Newton; one brother, George "Bud" (Gayle) Whalin of Mendenhall, MS; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
