TOLEDO- Doug Douglas, age 79, of Toledo, died Tuesday, August 19,2008 at St. Luke's Hospital in
Cedar Rapids following a short illness. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 25,2008 at
10:OO AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo with Pastor Clair Hein officiating. Interment will
follow at Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery in Brooklyn. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 24 from
2 to 5 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tarna.
Doug was born on March 12, 1929 in Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of Maurice and June Catherine (Andes)
Douglas. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Guam as part of his duties. After
returning from the service, Doug served as a police officer in Belle Plaine for a time. He was united in
marriage to Mary Ledvina on July 30, 1960 at Bethany Church in Belle Plaine. Doug later worked as a
Greyhound bus driver and operated his own business Doug's Trailer Park in Toledo. His favorite
pastime was fishing, and along with this Doug organized an annual fishing trip to Canada. He also
enjoyed his collection of clocks and playing pool. Doug also liked spending the winter in Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Dean Donald Douglas; a brother, Loren
Douglas; and a great-granddaughter, Faith Mena Douglas.
Survivors include his wife Mary of Toledo; three children, Debbra (Bill) Larimer of Toledo, Dwight
(Becky) Douglas of Belle Plaine, and Pam (Bob) Reinbrecht of Bloomington, IL; six grandchildren; ten
great-grandchildren; three sisters, Grace (John) Lakose of Brooklyn, Jan Douglas and friend Alan of Des
Moines, and Kay (Eldon) Rohm of Marysville, CA; two brothers, Ray (Sally) Douglas of Bettendorf, and Gene
(Ruby) Douglas of Grinnell; and special friends Lee and Coral Sanchez of Texas and their five children.
