Obituary

BLAKESBURG-Duane Earl Lentner, 76, of Blakesburg and formerly of Watkins, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Ray Lyon officiating. Private interment will be held at a future date. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 23 from 1-2 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Duane was born on May 26, 1934 in Oneida, Iowa, the son of Earl and Wilma (Wentz) Lentner.
He served his country in the U.S. Army.
On February 13, 1959, he was united in marriage to Virginia Moore in Vinton, Iowa. From this union came four children. She passed away in September 1967. He married Beverly Slaymaker on June 22, 1968 in Norway, Iowa, with the addition of Beverly's two children, the family was complete.
Duane was previously a fork lift operator for Wilson & Company in Cedar Rapids. He also worked for Jerry Stoddard at his garage in Watkins. His hobbies included fishing, camping, playing pepper and watching TV. He also enjoyed going to the casino. His life had no dull moments.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his step-father, Raymond Dixon; his first wife, Virginia; one brother, David Grapes; and a step-son, Jim Pugmire.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Tama; four children, Sheryl (Dave) Friedman of Blakesburg, Linda (James) Davis of Marshalltown, Penny Hand of Tama and David Lentner of Anamosa; two step-children, Kim Maschmann of Tama and Julie (Mickie) Ruple of Newton; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Connie Schmitz of Cedar Rapids; and one brother, Richard (Jane) Grapes of Cedar Rapids.
