TOLEDO-Edith Mae Shefchik, 92, a resident of Carrington Place in Toledo, passed away, Friday, April 8, 2011 at the care center under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Monday, April 11, 2011 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.
Edith was born on August 28, 1918, in rural Tama County, Iowa, the daughter of Clyde D. and Fleety (Elliott) Hamiel.
She graduated from Tama High School in 1936.
In 1938, she married Harold Shefchik in Lancaster, MO. Edith had worked for JH Neil Creamery Co, the Bee Hive and Packaging Corporation of America. She retired in 1979 from G.T.E. Telephone Company after seventeen years. Edith was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary. She liked to dance, fish and try her luck at Bingo. (She and Leona can now get back to Bingo). Edith always put the needs and concerns of others before her own.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband in 1974; her siblings, Laura Ribby, Addie Dolash and Jim Hamiel.
Survivors include one son, Larry Dean Shefchik of Toledo; one grandson, James Shefchik of Waterloo; one great-granddaughter, Isabella Shefchik of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews.
