Obituary

TAMA-Edna Carolena Coleman, age 99 years, 10 months and fourteen days, of Tama, died on March 1, 2007 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama due to advanced age. Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 5, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Christ United Methodist Church Worship Center in Toledo with Pastor Mary Schnepf and Pastor Paul Rendall officiating. Interment will follow at Haven Cemetery in rural Tama. Visitation will be Sunday, March 4, 2007 from 4-8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. There will be a time of sharing Sunday evening at 7 PM at the funeral home.
Edna Carolena Coleman was born on April 15, 1907, in Columbia Township in rural Tama, the daughter of August and Annie (Hoag) Ehlers.
She graduated from Tama High School in 1924. Prior to her marriage, she taught country school for one year.
On January 25, 1928, she was united in marriage to Delbert L. Coleman. They lived eight miles southwest of Tama on her grandmother's farm and then bought a farm east of Haven where they lived for twenty-eight years. She then moved to Holiday Lake near Brooklyn and then to Prairie Village in Tama in 1976. In 1991, she became a resident of Sunny Hill Care Center.
She was a member of Chelsea American Legion Auxiliary and Daughters of the American Revolution. Edna enjoyed genealogy and liked crocheting in her later years.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Delbert in 1971; one son, Russell, one daughter, Bettie Bearden; two sisters, one brother; one stepson, Howard Coleman; one grandson, David Coleman; one great-grandson, Mike Farrier; one great-great granddaughter, Rose Marie Scott.
Survivors include her children, Mabel Muck of Belle Plaine, Evelyn Clemann of Toledo, George (Evelyn) Coleman of St. Louis, MO, Bernita Knudsen of Toledo, Mary (Raymond) DePauw of Brooklyn, Florence (Paul) June of Cedar Rapids, Raymond (Betty) Coleman of Toledo, Frances (Vaun) Williams of Cedar Rapids, Jim (Bonnie) Coleman of Belle Plaine, Marilyn (Jim) Johnson of Chelsea, and Gary (Jani Wren) Coleman of Indianola; fifty-six grandchildren; over 110 great-grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
