TOLEDO-Edward Francis Wobeter, age 86, of Toledo, died Monday, October 26, 2009 at Hallmar in Cedar Rapids. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama where there will be a Vigil Service at 7 PM.
Edward was born on November 21, 1922 in rural Toledo, the son of James and Jenny (Kupka) Wobeter. He was united in marriage to Lillian A. Dvorak on September 10, 1946 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in rural Toledo. Ed farmed his entire life up until recently. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Catholic Foresters, and a past member of the Knights of Columbus. Ed enjoyed playing cards and outdoor life. He was active in politics and was a delegate for the Democratic convention in past years. In Ed's giving nature, he donated his eyes to the Iowa Lion's Eye Bank so that someone else may benefit.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Lillian in 2002; a grandson, Jessen Wobeter; four sisters, Albia Upah, Lucille Grabenbauer, Elizabeth Dvorak, and Lottie in infancy; and two brothers, William Wobeter, and James Wobeter.
Survivors include his children, Ron (Debi) Wobeter of Louisa, VA, Rob (Jan) Wobeter of Toledo, Janice (Larry) Paulsen of Cedar Rapids, Denny (Lana) Wobeter of Toledo, and Nancy (Nick) Meier of LaPorte City; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, C.J. Wobeter of Toledo; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
