Obituary

Ellen M. (Henle) Olsen, 91, of Tama, passed away, Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama with Pastor Warren Riley officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.

Ellen was born on March 5, 1925, in rural Tama County, Iowa, the eighth of eleven children of Francis George and Antonetta Rachel (Gettis) Henle.
She graduated from Tama High School in 1945. She also graduated from Thompson's Rudemar School of Beauty Culture in Des Moines, Iowa in1947 and received her Cosmetology Certificate late that same year.
On September 26, 1948, she was united in marriage to Leslie R. Olsen in Rockford, Iowa. They made their first home in an apartment above the old Tama Hatchery, where Les was employed. They moved into a house at 809 State Street in Tama where she lived for over fifty years. An excellent seamstress, she worked at Hazel Walton's fabric store in downtown Tama, as well as working at Royal Dairy, Rexall Drug Store, and housekeeping at Sunny Hill Care Center before retiring. She and her husband were honored by the Governor of Iowa for their volunteer service. Ellen was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Leslie on October 1, 2000; four brothers, Wayne, George, Veril, and Horace "Pat" Henle; four sisters, Marcella Osterberger, Claras Kriegel, Teresa Kriegel and Barbara Metz; and a son-in-law, Dennis Martin.
Survivors include her four children, Richard (Linda) Olsen of Waukee, Roberta Martin of Beloit, WI, Robert (twin of Roberta) of Houston, TX, and Randall (Robbin) of Omaha, NE; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her siblings, Dale Henle of Toledo, and Imelda Roth of Brooklyn; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama.
